Blockbuster trade sends Beckham Jr. to the Browns
March 13, 2019
Star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been complaining for months about being a part of the New York Giants. On Tuesday he was traded to the Cleveland Browns for draft picks in the first and third rounds, plus safety Jabrill Peppers.
In the process, Cleveland has become a favorite to win the AFC North.
This is a blockbuster trade that not a lot of people saw coming. There had been some rumors going around the last couple of days that he would be traded to an AFC North team.
Beckham is a a top-five wide receiver because of how fast he is and how good his hands are. Last year, though, did not go as planned with the Giants. He was unhappy with the organization and for months was demanding a trade.
This trade is not great for the Giants. They now have multiple first-round picks. They lost their best offensive target, however, and that means players like running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Eli Manning need to step up for the Giants.
This trade was a big win for the Browns, though. They stacked up their offense by adding Beckham. Next year they will have two top-15 wide receivers with Beckham and Jarvis Landry. They were teammates at college, playing for Louisiana State University.
Second-year quarterback Baker Mayfield has some serious targets to throw to next year. The Browns also have some talented running backs with second-year back Nick Chubb and veteran running back Kareem Hunt.
The expectations are now very high for the Browns to win the AFC North and make the playoffs. The future is now for the Browns with this stacked offense and a young talented defense.
