In 2010 math teacher Richard Ralston and his wife, Kelly, lost their daughter, Abbey, shortly after her birth.

To honor Abbey’s memory, the Ralstons hold an annual toy drive that provides Christmas presents for underprivileged children.

The mission is to “distribute to needy families in Allegheny, Washington, and Westmoreland” counties, Ralston said.

This year is the sixth year for the toy drive. Each year, about 1,000 toys are collected, filling the wish lists of about 300 children.

“We always appreciate the generous donations we receive. It is great because we are all working together to make Christmas a happy day for all families,” Ralston said.

Staff and students can put donations in the collection box in the high school’s main office or drop them off at Room 216. Donations also can be dropped off at Christ Redeemer Church’s diaper pantry in Canonsburg or through online wish lists at Amazon, Target, Walmart.

The toy drive continues through Dec. 8 and the donations will be distributed on Dec. 15.
