“Halloween” builds off original movies
October 25, 2018
It is not truly Halloween season until the horror movies start coming out in a surplus. This time viewers see a classic remake of the fan favorite Halloween, with Michael Myers making his big-screen return.
Taking place 40 years after the first Halloween, the movie starts with Michael Myers in jail and two true-crime podcasters, Aaron Korey and Dana Haines, looking to interview the one and only Michael Myers. Myers’ doctor, Ranbir Sartain, informs them that Myers can hear them and that he knows what is happening, but he just stands there. The two podcasters hold his infamous mask in their hand and even mention the name Laurie Strode.
Strode is played, as in the original movie, by Jamie Lee Curtis. Strode was the sole survivor of the 1978 attacks and has been dealing with post-traumatic stress in her heavily fortified house, waiting for Myers’ inevitable return.
As Myers is being transported to a maximum-security prison, the bus crashes and everybody is found dead, with Myers not there. With Halloween being the next day, needless to say suspenseful chaos breaks out.
The film does a good job of maintaining the mysteriousness of Michael Myers and sticking to what made the original a classic in the first place, while also updating it to fit current times. It is a great addition for diehard Halloween fans and also a fine first movie for anybody who has never seen any movies from the famous horror series.
Horror fans may be disappointed in the number of jump scares, yet they are effective.
Overall, Halloween is a great movie for horror fans to see to get into the holiday spirit.
