Students shuffle onto new Baldwin dance team

Baldwin’s new dance team pulled together a successful first performance during the Homecoming pep rally on Monday after a week of hard work.
“They got together as a group of kids who wanted to perform and in one week, and they put together a completely self choreographed dance. They practiced every day after school last week to prepare,” sponsor Sara Nairn said.
The dancers split up into groups to choreograph the performance, freshman Abby Rodgers said.
“Everyone worked together, which really helped,” Rodgers said.
Since student participation is so high, the dance team will be splitting into two different groups: a smaller competition team focused on jazz and contemporary, and a larger group for hip hop. The teams will occasionally join together for some performances, Nairn said.
“There are a lot of people who have never danced before, but they want to dance. So the larger group will give them a good chance to get started, and the competition team will be for more experienced dancers,” Rodgers said.
“To get a group of kids from all different social groups and dance backgrounds to come together and feel so excited about the same thing has just been so exciting for me,” Nairn said.
