While some seniors are still trying to figure out what to do with their futures, senior Kaleigh Varney is starting work on her ideal career early by planning a spring outdoor concert for Baldwin students.

Baldwin’s first Spring Fling will be held on Saturday, May 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the south parking lot. The event is free and open to all members of the community.

Varney reached out to people in the music industry and found three musical entertainers for the event. Performers include as Bird, a rapper, Caleb Kopta, an indie artist, and Mums Attic, a cover band. This way, there are musical genres for all students to enjoy as it will range from pop to rap, Varney said.

Varney had no problems getting the performers to come to Baldwin for small performance fees, which will come from leftover senior class funds. She did not have to ask many bands as these performers quickly agreed. Varney heard of the performers because she and her friends have seen them live as well.

“It was really easy because they’re all on social media,” Varney said

Because the Homecoming Carnival was rained out back in the fall, Varney has invited clubs to set up booths at the event. She said the clubs could sell food and promote themselves to raise money for next year.

Senior Class Sponsor Daniel Harrold said Varney deserves credit for taking on this kind of project this late in the school year.

“I really support what she has been doing. May is crazy, but Kaleigh is passionate and is following through,” Harrold said.

Varney hopes for a large turnout.

“Everybody can come and enjoy the end of the school year,” Varney said.
