Wodarek takes WPIAL gold for gymnastics
February 20, 2018
Olympic athletes aren’t the only ones bringing home the gold this week: Sophomore Alaina Wodarek earned a gold medal over the weekend in the WPIAL gymnastics competition.
Wodarek, while in her first year of gymnastics, has been a cheerleader since she was 6 years old and is used to the tumbling that is part of gymnastics, particularly in the floor competition.
“Floor comes natural to me because of cheerleading. I am used to all of the tumbling,” Wodarek said.
Wodarek finished in first place for the floor event to earn the gold medal.
Going into the competition, she was not nervous, she said.
“I have been competing for so long I don’t really get nervous anymore,” Wodarek said.
Because of her performance at WPIALs, she is looking forward to the states competition on Saturday at Moon High School.
“I am very excited, and I am ready to see how I will do,” Woderak said.
