Despite a last-minute song change, senior Emily Schessler went home as the Baldwin Idol winner on Friday night.

“I decided my song the day of” (the event), Schessler said.

Schessler had to drop her initial song choice because of concerns about its title, so she instead chose to perform “How Far I’ll Go” from the Moana soundtrack.

Schessler’s performance raised $1,100 for her chosen charity, the 1Six Foundation,  a nonprofit organization started in the name of Baldwin student Ty Kesten, who died in a motocross accident.

“I was really happy and thankful that I could contribute to the 1Six Foundation,” Schessler said.

Schessler last participated in Baldwin Idol her sophomore year, and although she was more prepared sophomore year, she feels this year her performance had a bigger impact.

“I was more prepared last time but this time it felt more important because the charity was close to my heart,” Schessler said.
