Tonight Alive reverts to grunge sound
January 23, 2018
Tonight Alive’s fourth studio album, Underworld, marks a change from the band’s previous album, Limitless. Instead of continuing down a nostalgic sound inspired by ‘90s pop, the band tugs on a dark grunge sound.
Since its last album, Tonight Alive strayed from subjecting themselves to a specific genre, and Underworld depicts that idea perfectly, with its all-around dark vibe that allows each song to bleed into the other. Throughout the album, the band ranges from pop rock to alternative to rock.
Underworld explores each band members’ personal life with and internal struggles. The album is unlike any other spiritual album that approaches a topic so seriously because it does not sugarcoat any factors of mental illnesses.
Because Tonight Alive does not limit itself to one genre, the band builds its own identity and confidence after experimenting with different styles of music.
