Junior Connor Sidoruk surprised many spectators and competitors with his second-place finish  at the Allegheny County Wrestling Championships at Fox Chapel this weekend.

Sidoruk overcame a seventh seed in the 170-pound division weight class.

Senior Gehrig Hutchison placed second in the 195-pound weight class while senior Jamil Khalil captured sixth in the 160-pound division.

Hutchison complimented Sidoruk’s wrestling progress this season.

“His best asset is that he doesn’t hesitate. He goes out there and wrestles fearlessly,” Hutchison said.

As the season winds down, the team is looking to focus on individual weaknesses in preparation for WPIALs at the end of February.

“We all have to work on things individually because postseason, everything is all individual. We are hoping to have a few qualifiers for WPIALs, especially the three of us who placed at the tournament this weekend,” Hutchison said.
