The girls varsity competitive cheerleading team turned in a dominant performance at the WPIAL championships over the weekend at Hempfield Area High School.

Baldwin placed first in the “medium varsity” division, second in the “AAA” division and second overall out of 31 teams.

“There was a lot of good competition,” senior Emma Hampsay said.

The second-place overall finish in the competition gives them a bid to the states competition at Hershey.

“Getting second place felt really good. It definitely gave us confidence about the upcoming competition in Hershey,” Hampsay said.

The team also has a bid for the national competition, which will take place later in their season.

“We placed really well last year (at nationals),” Hampsay said. “For me and a lot of the other girls, it’s our last year. We want to accomplish our goal of doing well this season like we did last year.”
