Audiences filled with “wonder”

Mackenzie Sendro, Staff Writer

Based off the New York TImes best-selling novel, Wonder the film perfectly portrays the life of 10-year-old August Pullman, who suffers from a rare genetic face dysphormia, and who goes to public school for the first time in his life.

Both the book and the movie tell the story through the point of view of multiple characters, and how they help Auggie make his transfer from homeschooling to public school easier.

Like any book to film adaptation, however, some minor changes were made.

The viewer does not get to see the full perspective of some characters, but this does not take away from the plot. The movie does add some emphasis on some Star Wars characters, who act as Auggie’s friends throughout the movie, which is not incorporated as much in the book.

Regardless, like the novel, the film gives the audience that “feel-good” feeling.

Overall, the film carries on author R.J. Palacio’s advice that “when given the choice between being right, or being kind, choose kind.”
