Hue changes up world of console puzzle games
November 2, 2017
After a while, most puzzle games found on consoles become repetitive or plain boring. There is a newly free Playstation Store game that is defying expectations, however.
Hue is a vibrant puzzle game originally published in summer 2016 by Curve Digital that is now rising to prominence because it is free.
Developed by Fiddlesticks, the game has magnificent, colorful scenery that makes the game easy on the eye. The game combines tricky, thought-provoking puzzles with beautiful scenery to make a very interesting game that is not as repetitive as its counterparts.
The game starts with an unnamed 2D character that is on a journey to rescue his mother from a mysterious hooded figure that kidnaps her.
The main control of Hue is the utilization of the right analog stick to change the background of the whole game. This makes obstacles disappear into the background when they correspond with the background color that is changed by the player.
Throughout the game, players discover new colors that help them manipulate the background even more and make more progress.
Players will even find puzzles that they do not have the colors to solve, trying to remember these for a later time when they discover the required pieces and colors.
Several obstacles include falling rocks and disappearing platforms that the player has to activate in mid-air using the color wheel.
Overall, the combination of beautiful scenery and challenging gameplay makes for a solid puzzle game that is so rare in gaming. There needs to be more puzzle games that follow this format to make the genre a staple in gaming for the years to come.
