`Super team’ era hits the NBA
November 2, 2017
A new era has begun in the NBA: the super team era. Recently, good NBA players have been joining forces on several teams to try to defeat the three-time champions, the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors have won the NBA finals three of the last four years and they are not showing any signs of slowing down. Aside from already having Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, last year they acquired former league MVP Kevin Durant.
But other teams are aligning to beat them, most notably the Oklahoma City Thunder. Acquiring Paul George, the superstar from the Indiana Pacers, and Carmelo Anthony, another superstar from the New York Knicks, the Thunder have a good chance at overthrowing the Warriors.
Another team that made a lot of good transactions over the off-season is the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs traded star Kyrie Irving to the Celtics for their star player, Isaiah Thomas, along with Jae Crowder and the Nets’ first round 2018 draft pick.
The Cavs definitely have the depth to defeat the Warriors as their roster consists of Lebron James, Isaiah Thomas, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Love, Jae Crowder, Tristan Thompson, Derrick Rose, J.R. Smith, Kyle Korver, and others.
The Celtics have also made a few notable acquisitions over the off-season. Aside from already having Al Horford, the Celtics traded for Kyrie Irving, superstar point guard, and they acquired Gordon Hayward from free-agency, although he got injured quickly in his first game as a Celtic. It’s probably safe to say that the Celtics are a solid playoff contender this season.
Over the past three years the NBA has been criticized for being boring and the same thing repetitively. Maybe the new super teams in the NBA will change that.
