Big Mouth is an animated comedy that explores the curiosity of puberty.

Although the show has explicit material that addresses the topics of sex and alcohol, it also emphasizes the true fear that teenagers experience during puberty.

Main characters Nick Birch (Nick Kroll), Jessi Klein (Jessi Glaser), Jay Bilzerian (Jason Mantzoukas), Andrew Glouberman (John Mulaney), and Missy (Jenny Slate) go through the changes associated with leaving childhood for adolescence. The friends experiences their first fights and first relationships.

The show embraces the changes of puberty and reassures viewers that change is normal and acceptable — even though it can be disgusting and uncomforting. Big Mouth personifies puberty into a monster for the growing teenagers to vent their confused feelings to.

However, some viewers may be put off by the animation style, which emphasizes the gross reality of life as a teenager. Other viewers may be uninterested because of the absence of a plot, since the series is simply a coming of age story.

The first season contains only 10 episodes that last 30 minutes each, leaving audiences looking for more. Although Netflix has yet to confirm rumors of another season, the co-creator Kroll assures viewers that more content is coming.
