While two members of the girls varsity tennis team lost section singles on Monday, seniors Nadine Khalil and Julia Prelich are still hopeful that the section doubles teams have a chance at advancing to states.

Khalil faced Penn Hills’ No. 1 player and Prelich faced one of Plum’s top players in the first round of singles.

“I feel that I played my best that round and had good serve approaches down the line that match,” Khalil said.

Khalil won 10-0 and Prelich lost 10-8 that round, leaving Khalil to advance for the rest of the tournament.

“Julia put up a really good fight,” Khalil said. “It was a really close game.”

Khalil ended up losing in the second round against Fox Chapel 10-0.
