Academics drove senior Kieran Schmidt to commit to playing baseball for Division III Hiram College.

“I mainly chose this school because of its nursing program,” Schmidt said.

Schmidt has been playing baseball for 12 years and he is grateful to be able to keep playing.

“Not many people get this opportunity,” Schmidt said. “I am thankful.”

Schmidt has an academic scholarship and plans to major in nursing. He also is fond of the baseball coaches at Hiram.

“I am going to Hiram because of their nursing program and their coaches,” Schmidt said.

Schmidt got to celebrate the moment with his friends, family, and teammates at Tuesday’s signing.
