The long-awaited film version of the novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower has finally hit theaters. Perks catches the essence of the novel, and since author Stephen Chbosky directed and created the screenplay, it should. Charlie (Logan Lerman), an awkward and friendless freshman, has a life-changing moment when he becomes friends with Patrick and Sam, played by Ezra Miller and Emma Watson. Lerman is at his best playing Charlie, the sincere and self-destructing character that readers of the novel wanted Charlie to be. Watson’s first role out of the Harry Potter series although her accent is distracting, she pulls it off. But the man who steals the show is Miller. He brings a comedic relief that is honest. Fans of the novel will thoroughly enjoy this heart-wrenching and joyful adaptation.
