Back On Top is surely a fitting name for The Front Bottoms’ newest CD, as it proves two years later they can still produce quality music. The fifth studio album by the alternative group holds the same catchy beats that the group has always had, alongside the occasional trumpet and other obscure instruments in the background. But it also provides new rebellious lyrics that anyone can relate to. Songs like “Laugh Till I Cry” and “The Plan” are upbeat enough to make any listener want to scream the lyrics while dancing, but don’t cross the line into pop-alternative that many radio hits deemed “alternative” are guilty of. The only downside to Back On Top is that a few of the songs are labeled explicit, but a clean version of the CD is offered on iTunes. Fans of bands such as Modern Baseball or Vampire Weekend will enjoy The Front Bottoms’ latest album.
