CD review: Borns

BY BRITTANY CHALMERS
4 stars

In his debut album Dopamine, Garrett Borns is off to a good start under his stage name, Borns. Previously, he released multiple EPs that were successful for a new indie pop artist, which set the course for his success in his first studio album release. In upbeat songs like “Electric Love” and “10,000 Emerald Pools,” Borns’s unique voice is shown off in a fun way. However, unlike many successful pop stars, his up-tempo songs are not his only good ones. Songs such as “The Emotion” and “Clouds” are slower and more relaxed without being miserable or too sad. Borns’s music is familiar enough to pop fans to gain him quick success without being so familiar that it becomes unoriginal. Though some songs sound very similar to each other, this strong album deserves all of its recent success.
