Thirty seconds into Ellie Goulding’s new album are quite enough to realize it’s not worth listeners’ time. Goulding’s newest album, Delirium, fails in conparison to her previous ones like Lights and Halcyon. Delirium consists of the same techno beat and simple choruses on repeat for 16 songs. Song style variation, which makes most albums interesting, is non-existent in Delirium. Songs like “Around U,” which consists of her high-pitched and over-auto tuned voice repeating the same generic phrase for four minutes, make up most of the album. Although airy vocals are the foundation of Goulding’s sound, Delirium’s 45-minute length becomes overwhelmingly monotonous. However, the hit “Love Me Like You Do” is the album’s saving grace. After listening to the hugely successful single, the rest of Delirium seems like a letdown. While an occasional Ellie Goulding song can add dimension to a playlist, it takes a special person to be able to listen to entire albums of hers.
