Movie review: “The Gift”

BY EMILEE GRUNTZ
Staff Writer

The Gift is an ingenious, powerful thriller that is unlike the mediocre movies that are so familiar today. The movie explores the taunting reality of the past coming back to rip apart lives. A young married couple, Simon and Robyn, played by Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall, encounter a series of odd confrontations. The man mysteriously entering their lives is Joel Edgerton as Gordo. Gordo haunts the couple to the point of insanity. The bizarre gifts at their door and his random appearances lead the couple to total turmoil. The Gift scrutinizes the depth of a hidden past with twists and turns that result in a dynamic yet unexpected ending. This psychological drama explores revenge, obsession, and utter knavery. With a title like The Gift, the possibilities can warp into countless clever outcomes that keep the viewer guessing.
