The softball team suffered a tough non-section loss to North Allegheny in its season opener on Friday.
The Tigers defeated the Highlanders 20-3. Yet there were good moments for Baldwin.
“Maleah Pacella, Anna Schumacher, and I all played well. We did well at the plate and base running,” junior Grace Schumacher said.
Other standout players included sophomore Kiera Platz and freshman Rylee Shaw, who was injured during a play.
Schumacher said the team needs to improve on communication for their next games.
“We need better communication and understanding in our own part of the game,” Schumacher said.
Senior Lenina Ebert said the rough weather affected the team’s enthusiasm.
“A big area in need of improvement would be the energy in the dugout later in the game. We were very energetic early in the game, but as it started to get colder and as the rain kept coming, the stamina ran dry,” Ebert said.
Sophomore Anna Schumacher agreed.
“We should bring the enthusiasm that we had for this game to our next games and work on mentally preparing ourselves for any weather conditions that may happen,” Schumacher said.
The team’s next game is on Wednesday against Steel Valley.
