The 2020 presidential election is almost here, and some Americans still are sure whether to vote for Joe Biden or Donald Trump.
The difference between the two candidates is astounding. The mere contrast between their websites shows the disparity between Trump and Biden. Trump’s website introduces his policies, but that’s it. He does not explain how he plans to execute those policies.
Biden has dozens of different policies he plans to enact if elected, and each one hyperlinks to his in-depth plans to accomplish these goals.
One of Biden’s policies is criminal justice reform. His website goes into detail on how he plans to achieve this, including fighting against disparities that disproportionately affect minorities. In a year of protest and unrest, this is what America needs. Biden plans to fight for racial equity in this country.
Trump, on the other hand, has refused to simply condemn white supremacy. He has shown time and again that he has little regard for minority groups.
Trump also has refused to take responsibility for the coronavirus that has caused the deaths of over 215,000 Americans. Trump admitted in a recording with reporter Bob Woodward that he knew of the dangers of the coronavirus in February, before the pandemic took off.
Trump said in the Feb. 7 interview: “It’s also more deadly than your, you know, your even strenuous flus. … This is deadly stuff.” Three weeks later in a press conference, the President said, “It’s a little like the regular flu that we have flu shots for, and we’ll essentially have a flu shot for this in a fairly quick manner.”
No vaccine has been approved for distribution in the U.S. yet.
Biden has a plan to handle the coronavirus. On his campaign site, he states his “seven point plan to beat COVID-19.” This plan includes protecting at-risk Americans, among other ideas to reduce the spread of the virus.
For many, Biden is not the ideal candidate. However, Biden’s policies will not violate anyone’s human rights, while Trump’s policies have. A few of these policies include his ban on transgender people from enlisting in the military, his attempted repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and his support of the conditions at the border, in which migrant children were separated from their families, and there have been allegations of non-consensual sterilization of migrant women.
A vote for Biden is a vote for the fundamentals of American democracy. Biden will be a president for all, not just people with right-wing views.
