Alita: Battle Angel, a science fiction film with stunning computer generated imagery and great action sequences, is the first really good movie of 2019.

It is based on a manga graphic novel and anime where cyborgs exist in the future. The lead character, Alita, wakes up with no memory of the past and has to fight villains who are played by Ed Skrien and Mahershala Ali.

Almost the entire movie is CGI and it is really impressive how all of the characters look. This is the best use of CGI in a movie since James Cameron’s Avatar from 2009.

Rosa Salazar, who plays Alita, does a great job bringing heart to the film. Other big names, like Jennifer Connelly and Christoph Waltz, take on large roles in this star-filled cast.

Even for movie fans who know nothing about the original manga or anime, this movie is a must see.
