Just like the Pittsburgh Penguins going back to back as Stanley Cup winners in 2016 and 2017, the Outreach Club has received free tickets to the “Hockey is for Everyone” diversity and inclusion Pens game for the second straight year.
The Penguins give away tickets to multiple schools and LGBTQ groups around the Pittsburgh area for the game. The Outreach Club received 14 tickets this year from the Delta Foundation, a program that sets up Pride events around the city. The Pens’ “Hockey is for Everyone” game is tonight, when the Pens will face San Jose at PPG Paints Arena.
Rebecca Michalski, sponsor of the Outreach Club, said these tickets are a great step forward for the LGBTQ movement in sports.
“I think that it is awesome that our local teams are supporting it and it creates a solid platform to help spread awareness for LGBTQ issues,” Michalski said.
The Penguins are also not the only team in Pittsburgh sponsoring such an inclusion and diversity game this year, as the Pirates have one slated for July 7 and the Riverhounds are hosting one in September.
