CD Review: Nine Inch Nails- Hesitation Marks

NIN-Hesitation-Marks

BY JUSTIN MARSTELLER
Staff Writer
4.5 Stars

The classic industrial sound that made Nine Inch Nails legendary is not lost with this newest album, Hesitation Marks. Trent Reznor, the sole official member of the band, manages to blend the sounds that put him to the top of charts, but also incorporates newer, unexpected influences.

The second and third tracks, “Copy of A” and “Came Back Haunted,” hit hard with the iconic electronic sounds that are reminiscent of early Reznor. However, stagnating in past sounds is not an option for Reznor, which is clearly seen through the song “Everything.” This seventh track consists of a pop-like sound, on the complete opposite end of the spectrum of most of the other songs off Hesitation Marks. The only downside of this album is on the deluxe edition, where the bonus songs are outsourced remixes that fail to flow alongside Reznor’s original songs. All in all, this album deserves to be among the collections of any industrial or alternative rock fan.
