The boys track team became Baldwin’s first section champions of the year Wednesday, earning the program’s first title since 2008.

The section meet took place at home Tuesday and Wednesday against South Fayette, Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park, Mt. Lebanon, Canon-Mac, and Peters Township.

Senior Casey Conboy said standout performances came from team members such as Brendan O’Malley, Arlen Hooks, and David Johnston.

The competition began Tuesday, but was cut short by rain. When the pole vault event was held on Wednesday, senior David Johnston and junior Nick Lachut earned enough points for Baldwin to win the championship.

“It’s pretty cool we’re section champions because it’s something they’ve talked about since my freshman year. But I didn’t know it was an attainable goal until we were undefeated at the last meet,” Convoy said.

After winning section championships, Baldwin will be hosting the first round of playoffs.

“I’m really proud of the whole team,” Johnston said. “It was really cool to see everyone come together to achieve this goal.”
