Baldwin student to attend Civil War program

Junior Sarah Fader is one of 10 high school students selected to attend a Civil War program at Gettysburg College.

The program will run June 9-14 and it will include experts from across the country who will give lectures. There are also two battlefield tours of Gettysburg and all the high school students will visit Antietam.

“I love history. If you had any history classes with me, you would know I love history,” Fader said.

Fader was looking for anything to keep her busy over the summer, and she was scrolling through Baldwin’s website when she came across information about this program at Gettysburg. She was intrigued by the idea of attending a program with people like her, who are passionate about history.

She was required to write an essay about why she would be chosen, and she had to submit a letter of recommendation and a guidance counselor sign-off. She sent in the forms in mid-February.

“More people should look for things to do over the summer, because there might be something that works for you but you’ll never know unless you look,” Fader said.
