The boys hockey team sits in first place in their division following a blowout win Tuesday at Wheeling Park, 9-0.

The entire team contributed to the big win, with seven different goal scorers. Among the goal scorers was freshman Justin Pollard, who got his first varsity goal.

“Justin worked hard every shift and came out of his shell,” sophomore Lucas Kirk said. “He’s going to be a solid player.”

The Highlanders emphasized team hockey, which showed in their stellar performance, Kirk said.

“We wanted to stick to our team hockey and stay away from selfish play,” he said.

With two games to play, one against Beaver on Thursday and another against South Fayette on Monday, the Highlanders hope to win the division.

“It feels great to be on a winning team,” Kirk said. “Hopefully we can win out and get the division.”
