The Key Club will be holding a “Penny War” for the rest of the week to help support a family from the district that is in financial need.

The father of the McGinty family recently had a heart attack and then a brain injury. Two of the family’s children are students at Paynter.

The “penny war” will be between the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes. Each class will have a jug, and pennies contributed to a jug will add points for that class, while higher denominations will subtract points. A freshman who puts a quarter in the junior class jug, for example, would cost the juniors 25 points.

Donations will be collected at lunches and in the guidance office. The winners will be announced before the end of the day Friday.

“The mission of the Key Club is to provide service to the community, and we felt this was the perfect opportunity to do so,” said counselor Caroline Babik, Key Club sponsor.
